Default Need help looking for a new video card

I want to upgrade my vid card. I have around $500 to spend. Been looking at gtx 1070's and 1080's. What's the diff. between a reg card and a founders edition?

A Founders Edition is Nvidia's reference card.

    Better explained here: http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreak...-gtx-explained

What CPU do you have. The reason that I ask is that I upgraded my GPU to a 1080 and ended up choking my CPU. I had to build a whole new rig.

I Have a AMD Phenom ll x4 965. Thanks for the link on the explaination of the founders edition. Thankfully the price between the reg. and founders has shrunk.

Dude your CPU is the problem. Those 2 video cards you have listed will choke your CPU to death.

OK! I have a GA-790XTA-UD4 Gigabyte mother board with a AMD AM3 socket. What processor would I be able to upgrade to. Looked at a AMD FX-8370 but not sure if this would be good enough.

Odd, but it is only showing support for one "FX" CPU with bios upgrade.
http://www.gigabyte.us/Motherboard/G...10#support-cpu CPU list takes a few seconds to populate.

I would do the Bio's update first to make sure it takes. (this Bios upgrade will also work with your current CPU) If all is good then I would consider the FX-4130. The only one listed on Gigabyte's site.

1: Make sure that is your motherboard in the link. http://www.gigabyte.us/Motherboard/G...-UD4-rev-10#ov
2: Make sure you can buy the FX-4130.
3: Make sure the Bios upgrade works with no issues.

Now all things considered. Your motherboard only has a 2.0 x16 PCIe slot. 3.0 is best for higher end video cards.
But write down your framerate the way your PC is now. Do the CPU upgrade and see if your framerate increases. If the game plays better (more stable) than it did. then you can consider a newer video card.

Now with all this said.... I have a, MSI motherboard, a FX-8350 Overclocked to 3.7GB, an R9 Fury 4GB Video Card Overclocked Plugged into a 2.0 16pcie slot, 16GB DDR3 1800 Ram slightly overclocked. And I can maintain Over 100 fps in game on most maps

OK looking for a mobo cpu combo now. This is the link that I have been looking at

    http://www.portatech.com/products/ca...FUgkhgodyiAALw

I only have about 300 to spend for this if I still want a good video card.

$300 for a mobo/cpu combo is only going to get you what you already have.

Depending on your choice for MB/CPU, you may need to move up to DDR4 also.
